Map of Truk Lagoon

Truk is a shallow lagoon in the western Pacific. Outside the lagoon's barrier reef the ocean floor is thousands of feet down, but depths inside are two hundred feet or less. The lagoon is about fourty miles across at its maximum. There are a dozen or so islands within the lagoon that are large enough to have permanent residents, and a few smaller islets that are used for stop-overs by fishermen and other travellers.
